I-15 Closure, Sept. 8 and 9: I-15 will be closed in both directions between 400 South in Springville (Exit 260) and Main Street in Spanish Fork (Exit 257) from 11 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. the nights of Wednesday, Sept. 8, and Thursday, Sept. 9, while crews place girders on the new 2700 North bridge over I-15 in Spanish Fork.

Work Area Construction Update

 Upcoming Construction Activities

  • The 1600 North overpass partial demolition originally scheduled for Sept. 11 has been rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 18. During this work, 1600 North will be closed at the interchange from 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 through 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19 and Sunday at 9 p.m. until Monday, Sept. 20, at 5:30 a.m. if necessary. I-15 will not be closed; however, traffic on the interstate will be restricted to two lanes in each direction during this activity.

  • Hauling operations continue at Geneva Road as crews remove fill material from the bridge embankments.. Flaggers are posted to allow trucks access. Please use caution as trucks are accessing the area. This operation will continue through Wednesday, Sept. 9.

  • Crews have started to build the first retaining wall that will support the new southbound off-ramp at the 800 North interchange. Called a Mechanically Stabilized Earth or MSE wall, these walls play an integral role in the construction of the new ramp.

  • Construction has also started on the MSE walls that will support the bridge abutments on the new Orem Center Street interchange.

Ongoing Construction Activities

  • At the bridge construction area (called a "bridge farm") north of 200 South in Lindon, crews continue to drive the piles for the temporary abutments required to build this off-site bridge. The plan is to build segments at the bridge farm and then move them into their final configuration on 200 South. This process is a method used in accelerated bridge construction (ABC).Businesses in the area may experience some vibration and noise during this activity. Vibration levels will continue to be carefully monitored.

  • Work to widen the outside lanes of I-15 through the Orem area continues to accelerate with large-scale grading and hauling operations underway to construct the drainage and sub-surface for the new lanes. This work is not expected to inconvenience motorists during daylight hours; however, I-15 will be reduced to two lanes in each direction at night to accommodate work activities for the widening of the freeway. Motorists should also anticipate nightly lane restrictions at the cross streets.

  • At the 800 North interchange and the 400 North bridge, crews are preparing to place temporary shoring at these locations. Crews will also install "wicks" to facilitate ground settlement. Wick drains are specialized drains that help the ground settle and consolidate at a faster rate.

Construction schedules are subject to change due to situations such as inclement weather, equipment issues, construction delays and other emergencies.
