Lehi to Lindon area update for the week of May 10, 2010

This update contains information about scheduled construction activities, inconveniences and progress along I-15 from the Lehi Main Street interchange through 200 South in Lindon.

Work Area Construction Update

Upcoming Construction Activities

  • Beginning May 10, the West Frontage Road between Storrs Ave and 100 East in American Fork will be closed for two months for gas line installation. This closure will be in effect 24 hours a day through mid July. Motorists will need to use alternative routes such as 400 South or 1100 south around the closure.
  • To improve the flow of southbound traffic through the S-curves area in Provo during I-15 construction, the lane closure originally planned to begin Thursday, May 6 has been modified to allow three lanes in both directions. However, speeds will be reduced and lanes will be narrowed and shifted. Motorists should anticipate an additional 30 to 60 minutes of delays during heavy commute time and longer during holiday weekends.

Ongoing Construction Activities

  • Crews continue removing trees along both sides of I-15 in the area of the Sam White Lane bridge.
  • Restriping of the I-15 travel lanes continues. Crews are placing temporary barriers along the freeway and preparing for bridge construction at various locations between 500 East in American Fork and 200 South in Lindon. Three lanes will remain open from 9 to 11 p.m., two lanes from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., and three lanes from 4 to 5 a.m. Saturday through Thursday.  Motorists can expect frequent lane shifts in the area.
  • Pedestrian access remains closed along the north side of the 500 East bridge in American Fork. This closure is expected to remain in effect until late June. Pile driving operations and embankment work at the 500 East interchange continues.
  • Shoulder work continues along I-15 in both directions from 500 East in American Fork to 200 South in Lindon.

Construction activities are subject to change due to situations such as inclement weather, equipment problems, construction delays or other emergencies.

Project Overview

The project will renovate I-15 in Utah County to meet projected transportation demands through the year 2030. The project will:

  • Add two travel lanes on I-15 in both directions from Lehi Main Street to Spanish Fork Main Street
  • Extend the Express Lane in both directions from University Parkway in Orem to Spanish Fork
  • Rebuild or reconfigure 10 freeway interchanges and replace or widen 55 aging bridges
  • Use 40-year concrete pavement along entire corridor

Coping with Construction

There will be periods of significant delays. UDOT is asking for your cooperation through construction and is providing tools and information to help you plan ahead and adapt.

  • During the next three years, expect closures and travel delays on mainline I-15, at interchanges, ramps and cross streets.
  • To minimize delays, drivers and businesses are encouraged to employ TravelWise methods including carpooling and shifting travel times and to use local roads for shorter trips. Additional travel tips are available at udot.utah.gov.
  • I-15 CORE has a comprehensive public communication and outreach plan to inform drivers and businesses in advance of closures, alternatives, inconveniences and delays. Information is available at udot.utah.gov/i15core, 888-i15-CORE (888-415-2673) or you can e-mail i15core@utah.gov.
