 Benefits of Doing Business Minimize

Serving more than 135,000 residents in the surrounding north county area, American Fork is the economic hub of one of the nation’s fastest growing communities.  North Utah County’s growth exceeds four percent annually, a figure which doubles the state average and quadruples the national average.  In American Fork, this growth has fueled the construction of several new city buildings, including a library, district court and police complex and a fire station.  Recently, large-scale retailing has come to the west side of American Fork with The Meadows shopping center, a retail magnet for northern Utah County.  U.S. Interstate 15 traverses the traditional southern and western borders of the city. As build-out approaches north of the freeway, the city looks to carefully manage expansion and development in the area south of the city, between the freeway and Utah Lake.

LOW UTILITY AND BUILDING COST

• WATER & IRRIGATION
American Fork residents approved the implementation of a city-wide pressurized irrigation system in 2006. The system enables the community to conserve culinary water and accommodate a growing population.  Construction will be completed in the spring of 2010. Approximately one-third of the system will be operational in the spring of 2008 with
two-thirds operational in the spring of 2009.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN POWER

 GAS
Questar Gas Company is Utah’s primary natural gas provider.  Questar is in the unique position of owning a significant amount of natural gas reserves, which allows service rates to be consistently among the lowest in the nation.  Large industrial users may purchase natural gas supplies from independent producers and transport the gas under a free arrangement with the utility.

• BROADBAND
Many businesses in American Fork benefit from high bandwidth and dark fiber services because of the fiber optic technology deployed here.  Where dark fiber is not now available, businesses may lease dark fiber through the city.
