American Fork Snow Removal Guide

American Fork strives to provide timely, efficient and cost effective snow/ice removal and winter maintenance on its roadways. However, each storm or weather event produces different variables which affect how we respond with snow removal equipment.  Fluffy, dry snow requires less de-icing materials and plowing than heavy wet snow. Wet snow may result in very slippery conditions if allowed to freeze on paved surfaces. Each storm is evaluated as it occurs and the best method of action is determined.  Please keep in mind that it is not the policy of American Fork City to maintain bare pavement or to provide snow and ice removal to every City street during each snow storm. A copy of the Snow Removal Ordinance can found on our website by clicking the link below, at the office of Public Works, or can be e-mailed to you upon request.

More information is provided in the Street Department Snow Removal Policy.

Snow Tips

  • Wind, pavement temperatures, and duration of storms will affect snow and/or ice removal
  • If you must drive during a snowstorm, stay two car-lengths behind a snowplow. Never cut in between a caravan of plows clearing a street or highway.
  • Refrain from parking on city streets when storms are predicted. This allows us more maneuverability with the plows resulting in more of the street being cleared.
  • If you shovel your driveway apron before the plow comes through, shovel to the right, facing the street.
  • Home and business owners are responsible for clearing the sidewalks and steps adjacent to their property.
  • Clear snow away from fire hydrants, catch basins and mailboxes.
  • Put shoveled snow in park strips or in the yard, not in the street.
